Super Cruise Technology

This technology uses infrared light, lidar mapping, cameras, and radars to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. Super cruise can detect when the vehicle is not perfectly centered, and if it is being driven, it will automatically correct the position.

There is currently an extended network of compatible roads consisting of 200,000 miles where the Super Cruise technology can be used.

Lane Change on Demand

Lane Change on Demand allows the driver to turn on the turn signal, and the car will automatically change lanes when it is clear and safe to move to a new lane. The only stipulation is that the monitor can detect that the driver is paying attention. The technology knows the desire to switch lanes was not accidental. Of course, the vehicle will wait until it is safe and there are no cars in that lane before making a move.

The newest version has been tweaked slightly to improve the performance while providing a better interface, which includes software updates.
Super Cruise is truly a hands-free driving system that uses sensors that watch the road and high-definition maps. The technology also depends on the monitoring system inside the car to ensure the driver is even paying attention. If the driver needs to switch lanes or brake, they can perform the task. Super Cruise is a superior technology that has yet to be seen anywhere other than in driverless vehicles.

The driver does not have to hold on to the steering wheel. They can if they choose to, which many drivers do because it gives them a sense of being in control of the car — even though they are in control and can override the Smart Cruise at any time. The basic idea with this technology is to sit down, buckle up, place your hands in your lap and look at the road. It is improbable that the driver will ever have to do anything beyond tapping the turn signal or another button to let the car know where to turn or make a pit stop before arriving at your desired destination.
